Katherine of Aragon (Maria Doyle Kennedy)
Katherine was once married to Henry’s older brother Arthur. She was Henry’s first wife; they have one daughter, Princess Mary. Henry constantly worries of producing a son, an heir to his throne. She was nevertheless loved by the people of England because she mingles with them and donates to the common people after church services.

Though she does her duty as the Queen of England admirably, her inability to produce a son got her at odds with Henry. She was later accused of lying when she said her previous marriage with Arthur was never consummated, and therefore his marriage to her was incestuous and illegal. She was then banished to spend her final days at the house “The More”, without any contact from the King’s staff or her daughter Mary.
Maria Doyle Kennedy plays the role of Katherine. Maria was born on September 25, 1964 in Dublin, Ireland. She is married to musician Kieran Kennedy and they have four sons: Louis, Jesse James, Daniel and Salvador. She is an award winning Irish actress and singer. Her first album When Justice Came reached number 4 in the Irish charts and is ranked among the best Irish albums in the late 1980’s.
